TEDxTRU 2018 - A Quick Recap
Updated: Jan 12, 2019
What is TED? TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to 'ideas worth spreading'. Originally a 4-day conference on Technology, Entertainment, and Design over 30 years ago, it is now a global stage for the world’s leading thinkers and doers to curate an environment of sharing and ignite curiosity.
How is TEDx Different from TED? TEDx is a local, independent, self-organized event that brings people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection.
TEDxTRU is a student-led event for Thompson Rivers University, the Kamloops region and all within Secwepemc territory. Last year it was organized by Aanchal Mogal and her team of students, and its theme was ‘Growing through our truths’.
Through this event, the speakers got an opportunity to share some of their powerful and inspiring stories that helped people to look at things in a different light. The beauty of this event is that it’s not just about the talks, it also manages to captivate you with pre-event activities and the atmosphere.
The speakers for TEDxTRU 2018 were Tim Shoults, Katherine McParland, Jeffrey McNeil, Alexandra Proctor, Heramb Vadalkar, Yasir Khan, Saira Sabzaali and Michael Mehta. Their talks were diverse and covered topics such as explore & discover, passion & food, why people matter more than things, and so on.
